What is Fmtu Barrie?
FMTU, Barrie stands for Family Medicine Teaching Unit located inside the Royal Victoria Hospital. It provides short term medical courses to the local people of the Barrie, and make them learn medical practice, so that the shortage of family doctors in the area can be handled. Family Medicine Teaching Unit (FMTU) is supported by the Barrie Chamber, and this program is partnership between the University of Toronto, the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Barrie Community Family Health Team. This medical teaching program was started in July, 2009. Along with the medical practices, medical treatment is given to the patients of the region. In the beginning, this medical program was started by Three medical graduates: Dr. Anne Muscat, Dr Justin Porter, and Dr. Chris Riddle. Today, this medical unity has over 20 family medicine faculty, and over 100 specialist faculty. Through FMTU, local people manages medical practice. FMTU, Barrie is located in Rotary Place, spreading over the 12,000 square foot.
